Print Story Flying (well mainly training) visit to US & Canada
Travel
By ambrosen (Mon Feb 27, 2017 at 11:29:59 AM EST) (all tags)
I had a week of holiday to use up before the end of March, and when I was home over Christmas, I mentioned to my dad how I'd seen how cheap flights to see $FamilyFriend in Montreal were. So obviously a week later, I get a message excitedly saying "so, I hear you're visiting", and most of the rest was out of my hands, hence not arranging to meet. Sorry.

Print Story Quick question for everyone:
It's been a while since we've had any puzzles here, and a tiny little maths problem struck me while reading the description for a laptop bag.

It may be trivial to some of you, it may be a tricky one to work out in the mind, or it may even need a minute or two with a pen and paper, but it's got me wondering.

Im in ur city catchin ur buses.

I never realised that it was actually the most picturesque city in the whole of England.

Inside, reminder about drinks (London, Friday 10th December). JtL, TPD, aggressive tellytubby, hulver, metatone, gazbo... anyone else fancy coming? I presume it'll be the normal talking about everything and nothing until the wee small hours. I'm in London anyway, so...

Why on earth would you take people's money to talk about it?

I'm looking at you, Bobbie Johnson. So, Saturday was the 60th anniversary of the first successful execution of a software computer program (stored, in this case, on a CRT).

The Guardian wrote this report on it.

Oh, the errors, how shall I enumerate ye?

n.b. No need to respond, dear errors, I know how to enumerate you. A definition list should do the trick.

Looking at the market for nice 22" TVs, it's pretty disquieting that it costs £300 to get a decent set with a digital receiver, but only £200 for a much higher resolution monitor, and a further £200 for a hard disk recorder with an upscaling processor, twin digital tuners, DVD recorder and whatnot. The decision's a no-brainer, surely.

See, I have this diet which involves not eating any bread. It's fine for breakfast: weekdays I have eggs, maybe bacon, and cereal, and weekends I often have pancakes. Trouble is: the pancakes can get rather dull, and the recipe I use requires four to each egg.

My question is, what do I eat them with?

Dear Husites,

We all share each other's company in different ways on this website, and as part of the fun and games, we share in creative tasks together.

This is good fun for all involved, but it requires skills, discipline and confidence to submit your creative efforts for review. (I have lost my a capella version of In The Army Now that I did for the Status Quo MFC, but otherwise I have contributed nothing).

I hereby suggest a simple, easy to enter, do it at your PC participatory fun challenge:

The Wikipedia Dorkiness Fun Challenge

Now, you are asking yourself how you enter the WDFC. And the rules are inside.

I was creeping around the back of the warehouse, stalking out big game, when a fluttering sound could be heard in the distance.

I snuck around the edge of the shelf and caught a glimpse of motion out of the corner of my eye, so, BLAM!, I struck out with my Tazer and a creature jolted itself out of existence.

Otherwise Reynolds could have sorted my Dad out. So, picture the scene, we're riding 2 miles from our B&B to Dalwhinnie station with a 25mph tailwind on a Sustrans path. It's slightly downhill, and narrow. It's a well surfaced path, just over a metre wide, but bumping and swerving up and down to bridges over streams. It swerves up towards the main road (the A9) to cross a gully. I can ride offroad

Print Story Attention Hodnet Infidels.
You know that bit of the A53, right? You know, the straight section with a couple of summits just south of the Hodnet bypass. Single carriageway, one lane in each direction, just like all the rest of the road.

Excellent. Just to make sure we're talking about the same place, it's the summit that I slowed down for when I was last driving southbound. That was just after I'd been overtaken by the Subaru Impreza whilst I was driving at the speed limit, having been driving at the limit of distances I could see and foresee to be clear for the previous 5 miles from Loggerheads where you were following me.
